The Band is transitioning to an Online Management System called Charms. This system is used by several thousand groups in Texas. The attached document is a small description of the software. We are asking all parents of band and guard students to go into Charms and update your personal information before band registration on August 8. This will help us immensely by cutting down on the time it takes to go through the lines at band registration. Here is the document for your information: NEW Band Management Online System – CHARMS!!
The Friendswood HS Band is hosting a band contest on October 2, at Friendswood High School. We need a couple of parent’s to volunteer to be in charge of Band Warm-up and Publicity. Please email Laura Konet and let her know if you are interested. lrkonet@yahoo.com.

Hi from your Car Wash Committe Chairs! Thank you students and parents so much for your fantastic and continued support of the Band/Guard car washes! We have put together the names of the people already signed up for the July 10th car wash. Please look at the attached list: July 10 Car Wash, to find out your assigned location and time slots. If the attachment does not come through, please visit the band website, www.friendswoodmustangband.org, to view the list. Some people may have been moved to the Wendy’s location to fill the much needed help at that location, so make sure to check the list!! Just a reminder… we use 12 people for each of 3 shifts at each location! That’s 72 slots on each car wash date between the two locations!
We have had several questions this year about the car wash process, slots available and student account credit process. Since this year is an out of state trip year and we are granting credit to student accounts, rules have been created to allow all students to have a fair opportunity to earn money towards their accounts if they wish, yet still make the amount earned to the student valuable. Any student is initially allowed to sign up for one 2 hour time slot on each Car Wash Day. All-day participants are not allowed in order to make room for other students who want to help and earn some money towards their accounts. However, on the day of the Car Wash, if there are still empty slots available, then a student (or parent) can work two or more slots as determined and allowed by the shift/day on site by the Committee Chairperson. So, if you want to work more than one shift, make sure to check with us on that day! We may very well need more people!
Once you arrive to the car wash location, it is extremely important you sign in. If you are scheduled to work a shift and are not there on time, someone else may be able to work your time slot in your place, as determined by the Committee Chairs on site. Please make sure you sign in legibly so we can give you credit for your work.
Account Credit Process: Overall car wash monies are split 75% to student accounts, 25% to band general fund. Each full 2 hour shift is worth one (1) credit. If you work 1 hour of a shift and then leave early, you will receive .5 credit. At the end of all three car washes, a dollar value for the credit will be determined based on 75% of total funds earned for all 3 car washes. We will then credit your student’s trip account for the value of their earned credits.
Please review the July sign up list and let us know when/where you would like to work. There is still plenty of room to sign up if you haven’t already and earn some money towards your trip account!!
You can notify us by email or phone number. Walgreen’s location: Barbara Gruener, gruenergang@sbcglobal.net or 832-605-7479. Wendy’s location: Stacey Cumming, scumming1@comcast.net or 832-287-8009.
Please contact us if you have any questions at all.
Thank you!
If you would like have the ability to assist our Might Mustang Band Game nights and at Contests, think about being a chaperone.
Being a chaperone is a great way to help the band members. As an added bonus you get admission into the games and competitions at no cost and transportation on the bus is free.
If you become a chaperone, please remember that you will need to wear a booster club polo or booster denim shirt to all chaperoned events. You can use last years if you are a returning booster. You can purchase shirts at registration or place an order at band website.
Please come by our booth at band registration on August 8th, 2-5pm.
YOU WILL NEED TO COME TO A CHAPERONE TRAINING MEETING BEFORE YOU CAN CHAPERONE GAMES AND CONTESTS DURING THIS MARCHING SEASON. DATES WILL BE POSTED AT REGISTRATION.

Parents of Returning Band Students
Welcome to another exciting year of Mighty Mustang Band! As you have learned, being a part of the band has associated costs and volunteer commitments. The Mustang Band Booster Club (MBBC) raises money through registration fees, sponsorships and various fundraisers allowing our band and color guard students the best opportunity for success! Funding from FISD alone is not enough for the students to accomplish these goals each year.
Your registration fees and participation allow MBBC to support the Mustang Band to be the best in state! This year we are offering you the opportunity to create a payment plan that fits your budget if you do not wish to pay the fees in one payment at registration in August. We have broken down the fees into required and optional items. You can make payments monthly or bi-weekly. All membership fees are due by Band Registration on August 8th. Friendswood High School brought home a second consecutive Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship following an inspired performance at Texas State University on Saturday, March 27, 2010, where over 100 High School groups competed. The Varsity team is competing in the Open Class division, the highest competitive level for Color Guard in Texas. This high achievement is a result of dedication and hard work, and something to be proud of.
The Friendswood Junior High Guard took top honors as well placing first in the Cadet (Junior High Division). This is their second State Championship in the past 3 years. The Junior High is our entry-level program, giving the students a preview of color guard, and a chance to compete at an entry-level position before joining the high school program.
The Friendswood JV Guard placed 4th at State as well. Competing against only High School Varsity units they moved up 2 spots from their seeding and missed medaling by one point.
The Color Guard program at Friendswood High school is growing and succeeding by leaps and bounds. Many thanks to the Mustang Band Boosters for their continued support. Thanks also goes out for the support of FISD staff and administration, Bales Intermediate School for their continued support and allowing the Guards to use their facility for our home rehearsal site, and last, but not least, the many parents who have supported us through the years.
Color Guard Director is Ron Barnett!

Varsity Guard placed 1st in Open Class at the Winter Guard International (WGI) Houston Power Regional on March 22nd, 2010. They were the top high school color guard at the contest. Color guards from all over Texas and Louisiana competed at this event.
Friendswood has placed 1st in all but one contest this season. The Varsity Guard is also the top seeded Color Guard for this weekend’s Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship in San Marcos at Texas State University. They will be attempting to claim the Open Class title to complete back to back TCGC State titles after placing 1st in A Class at last year’s state championship.
The Varsity team had been promoted to Open Class by WGI at the National competition last year in Dayton, OH, after making finals in A Class. This is a great honor for the girls, and a tribute to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
Many thanks to the staff and parents at Friendswood High school. We have come a long way in recent years, and couldn’t have done it without your support.
