DIRECTORS
Greg Dick
Mr. Dick is a graduate of Brazoswood High School and Sam Houston State University. He has taught in the Dickinson, Clear Creek and Friendswood School Districts. Mr. Dick’s bands have been named ‘Best In Class’ in numerous festivals across Texas. His bands consistently win the UIL Sweepstakes Award.
While at Space Center Intermediate School, his band was named the Class CCC Middle School State Champion Band in 1994 & 1998 and performed at the Texas Music Educators Convention in 1995 & 1998. His Space Center Band was one of two intermediate bands in the U.S. to play at the Midwest International Band Convention in 1999 in Chicago. In 2000, the Space Center Band earned the Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. This award recognizes the two most outstanding band programs at the international level.
In 2001, the Friendswood High School Band was a state semifinalist at the 4A UIL State Marching Contest and in 2003, 2005, and 2009 was named State Runner-Up (2nd place) at the same competition. The FHS Wind Ensemble earned the coveted title of State 4A Honor Band in 2005 and again in 2009. The FHS Wind Ensemble followed to the Midwest Clinic in 2006, and the Band earned the Sudler Flag in 2007.
Mr. Dick was named Teacher of the Year for the Clear Creek ISD in 2000. He was awarded the Leadership and Achievement Award by the Texas Music Educators in 1995, 1998, and 2005. In 1998, Mr. Dick was awarded the Citation of Excellence by the National Band Association. Mr. Dick is a member of Who’s Who of American Teachers. Mr. Dick’s affiliations include TMEA, TMAA & TBA. Mr. Dick is an active adjudicator and clinician across the state. He is married and has two children.
Mr. Dick was recently inducted into the prestigious American Bandmasters’ Association at their annual convention which was held in Norfolk, Virginia, March 2-6, 2011.
The American Bandmasters’ Association was begun in 1929 with John Philip Sousa as its first honorary president. Mr. Dick is one of only seven members from the greater Houston area. At any given time, there are only around 300 members in the A.B.A. with the majority of the membership coming from the leaders of our military bands and colleges. The organization seeks to foster the band movement throughout the United States through cooperation with the U.S. military bands, college bands, community bands, and public school bands.
Aaron Brown
Mr. Brown is beginning his fifth year as an assistant band director at Friendswood High School. Before coming to FHS, he taught for three years at Truitt Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District where he was also an assistant director. After graduating from J. Frank Dobie High School in 1995, he attended the University of Houston. He is married and has one child.
Julio Sanchez
Mr. Sanchez is a 1990 Graduate of Texas Tech University. He is also a member of the DCI World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard in the Summer of 1986. He has 14 years teaching experience in Texas public schools. Mr. Sanchez has professional memberships which include TMEA, TBA, PAS and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is married with 1 child and lives in Pearland.
