COLOR GUARD WINS TWO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SAN MARCOS
Posted by: | CommentsFriendswood High School brought home a second consecutive Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship following an inspired performance at Texas State University on Saturday, March 27, 2010, where over 100 High School groups competed. The Varsity team is competing in the Open Class division, the highest competitive level for Color Guard in Texas. This high achievement is a result of dedication and hard work, and something to be proud of.
The Friendswood Junior High Guard took top honors as well placing first in the Cadet (Junior High Division). This is their second State Championship in the past 3 years. The Junior High is our entry-level program, giving the students a preview of color guard, and a chance to compete at an entry-level position before joining the high school program.
The Friendswood JV Guard placed 4th at State as well. Competing against only High School Varsity units they moved up 2 spots from their seeding and missed medaling by one point.
The Color Guard program at Friendswood High school is growing and succeeding by leaps and bounds. Many thanks to the Mustang Band Boosters for their continued support. Thanks also goes out for the support of FISD staff and administration, Bales Intermediate School for their continued support and allowing the Guards to use their facility for our home rehearsal site, and last, but not least, the many parents who have supported us through the years.
Color Guard Director is Ron Barnett!

Varsity Guard placed 1st in Open Class at the Winter Guard International (WGI) Houston Power Regional on March 22nd, 2010. They were the top high school color guard at the contest. Color guards from all over Texas and Louisiana competed at this event.
Friendswood has placed 1st in all but one contest this season. The Varsity Guard is also the top seeded Color Guard for this weekend’s Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championship in San Marcos at Texas State University. They will be attempting to claim the Open Class title to complete back to back TCGC State titles after placing 1st in A Class at last year’s state championship.
The Varsity team had been promoted to Open Class by WGI at the National competition last year in Dayton, OH, after making finals in A Class. This is a great honor for the girls, and a tribute to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
Many thanks to the staff and parents at Friendswood High school. We have come a long way in recent years, and couldn’t have done it without your support.
